Top Common Cosmetic Surgery Complications

Article by Dr. Jan Zemplenyi

Some medical operations are strongly suggested by doctors because they feel the surgeries could help your health and increase your quality of life. If you decide not to have the operations, your conditions may worsen and ultimately become life-threatening.

There are other surgeries, however, that are not as crucial and are mainly done for aesthetic purposes. Cosmetic surgeries can be performed on a number of body parts and can involve all sorts of alterations. Changing the nose or shape of your nose, cheeks, and breasts are quite common. Nowadays, cosmetic surgeries are quite safe but that does not mean that you should not be aware of the various complications that could come. No surgery is 100% safe but some are close. Below are some of the most common cosmetic surgery complications.

Scarring

Perhaps one of the most common complications from any type of surgery is scarring. Since surgeons will need to cut into the skin to make alterations, whether that be adding, removing, or reshaping, there is a possibility that patients could be left with marks where incisions were made. Since cosmetic surgeries usually performed to enhance one’s appearance, these unwanted marks may cause discomfort. Talk to your surgeon to learn about how he or she will prevent scarring and what steps can be taken to reduce the appearance of them if they were to show.

Infections

Surgeons usually take certain steps to make sure their patients heal properly after a surgery. That being said, there is still a possibility that you can get infected after following the postoperative steps. Some infections can be internal and tough to spot, which is why you should schedule checkups to pay close attention to how your body is recovering.
